Free Patterns

taylors quilt

Did you know that almost every manufacturer I carry offers free patterns?  Yep!  They have various quilters make a quilt for all the new lines – and these are almost always offered as free patterns to all of us!  A few fabric companies (like  Michael Miller and Moda’s blogs) have other patterns offered as well – but the majority seem to be quilt related….although as home sewing and garment sewing regain popularity, I think we’ll see more free pattern options.

Anywho….I used this free pattern to make Taylor’s quilt.  The blues look crazy bright in this picture….they are really more normal looking than this.  It looks like they took every bit of sunshine available, absorb it and became radio active or something.   😀

So back to the free patterns….what’s so great about them, well, first of all, they are free. But what I love more than that is you can see so many ideas in one place. It’s a great starting place for projects – to get your creative juices flowin’! It’s also easy to tweek patterns, add an element from one pattern to another, leave this or that off, etc. etc. And with free patterns, I don’t really feel guilty about doing this.  Plus, did I mention they are free?

(Just a little aside here, remember that these are free patterns….some are written in pretty broad terms and you often don’t get the illustrations and hints that you do when you purchase an idependent designer’s pattern….I’m not saying always…but I don’t want you to be shocked when it’s not a 15 page color booklet!)

So this is what I’m going to do for you….because I love you all so much…..I’m making a list of the manufacturers (that I carry) with a link to each free pattern page.  If I start carrying a new manufacturer, I’ll try to come back and update this post….maybe….if I remember.     😉

P.S. I just placed my first order through the shop! I only ordered some linen since I can’t afford to buy anything else (oh the woes of the grad student!), but I really wanted some linen and was happy to take advantage of your discount code 😉

Howdy just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The words in
your article seem to be running off the screen in Firefox.
I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with browser compatibility but I thought I’d
post to let you know. The design and style look great though!

Hope you get the issue resolved soon. Cheers
