This dress has been finished for over a week… but I’m going to cheat and use it today for my Finished Friday’s post. On weeks like this, I’m lucky if I get to shower everyday – let alone have time to sew. LOL
So this adorable dress was made using a charm pack from Moda! I can’t tell you how much I am lovin’ charm packs at this point in my life. (I have some layer cakes too – but the 5 inch squares are what’s been working so far!) This line of fabric is called Smores – by Me and My Sister Designs. Notice the little marshmallow men on the pink square, and the green one? It’ll be a winter dress for Haley. (Yes, we have winter here in Tucson, for all you doubting Thomas’) The dress is really meant as more of a jumper and should be worn with a shirt underneath – but I couldn’t convince Haley to put on a long sleeved shirt to take pictures. So, as my son likes to say “You get what you get, and you don’t throw a fit.”
For the pattern – it was kinda a made up – see what happens as you go type of thing. I LOVE these little marshmallow men and the girly colors. I knew I wanted to make Haley something for winter, but I didn’t want it to be another patchwork skirt. So orignially I had planned on making her a t-shirt dress kinda like this but with the patchwork skirt on the bottom. Then my mom said “Why not make it a jumper like the other dress we made?” I loved the idea – but I didn’t want it to look the same. SO instead, I used the other top from the same pattern. The bottom has tiered layers (6, 8, 10, 12) that are gathered slightly to fit each row together. And I used my serger for a rolled hem (YIPPEE!) Because of this blogger, I am thinking of adding a cute little ruffle to the bottom! We’ll see if it ever gets done. And if not, well, at least she can wear it as is! Anyway, see how much fun a pack of 5 inch squares can be?
