Our weekend

At one point, we had thought it would be nice to go out of town over the long weekend. Turns out, the sheet-rockers would be working Saturday and again on Monday, so hubby didn’t feel comfortable leaving town while contractors were working. So, I got to stain our front door! I’m pretty happy with the end results.  I was not happy during the process.  At one point, I thought I was going to have to burn down the house.  (That’s me being dramatic…I now realize it would be cheaper just to buy a new door!) Just as most things, it took much longer than we thought it should. Hubby was installing door knobs/locks while I was working on this. That took him longer too. 🙂 I was really really unhappy with the first coat, but after 2 trips to home depot, some new brushes, tools and techniques – the second coat went much much better. Don’t you think it looks nice?

Sometime I’ll get a picture with the hardware on it, so you can see the door knobs.  🙂  If you come and see the house (which I think you should) don’t look TOO closely, okay?  I was planning on rewriting the lyrics to “From a Distance” to make the song applicable to this door…but I’m not feeling creative enough right now, plus I’m not sure I have Better Midler on my iTunes so it’d be hard to get it just right!   I worked on some other, more crafty things as well this weekend, and will share those another time.

Kyle told me on Saturday that he is going to be rich when he grows up. That way he can buy anything whenever he wants it. Isn’t that nice? (This was brought on by him wanting a Happy Meal and I told him I didn’t have enough money to go out to eat!) I told him that was wonderful and that he’d have to go to school and work really hard. He was pretty annoyed with me. “Mom, I’m just gonna pick up money off of the ground, I don’t have to work hard.” HA HA! I guess when you consider $5 rich, then maybe spare change on the ground is all you need. 🙂

I’m feeling pretty freaked out about all the work that needs to be done at the house. I’ve arrange for my friend’s daughter to babysit the children next weekend. She is 13 and is anxious to make a little bit of money. This weekend, hubby cleared out a room and set up the TV to play movies. That was a great idea, for about an hour. –  The novelty quickly wore off….so I don’t know that we can count on that one again.  Plus next weekend, we might be painting, and I have a feeling that my kids would end up covered in 5 gallons of paint if they tagged along!

I think the front door turned out great! I know you would enjoy time away but I’m glad the sheet rockers kept working so then the stucco guys can do their part. Good luck with painting and all the next steps. Wish I were there to watch the kids. So cute about Kyle going to be rich, oh to be young and innocent!
    Talk to you soon.
    Love to all,

The door looks fantastic! I’m so impressed! Looking at the before picture, it looked just fine, but staining it definitely upped the sophistication factor. Makes me want to stain my front door. :o)

Lovely door! And I promise not too look.

Ask Kyle if he can share with us when he gets rich. We saw a dime today outside the car door at a stop light. Too bad Kyle wasn’t here to start his new career. 🙂

I got a kick out of the part about the song…From a distance… that’s a good one. I could apply that song (change a few words)to my face on any given morning!

Thanks for your email…I’m flattered. You are too kind. I really love your website, and your blog! Thanks for directing me there!

I will update you on the new patterns coming out as soon as they are here…it may be closer to market by the time they are done. There’s just so much to do, and so little time!

Do you have a booth at market? I’ll come visit you.

    Nice to “meet” you!

    Lila
