As Lizzy House said on twitter the other day, “I think more people need to think about the actual curating of their inventories.” And that has been my exact plan this year, because as it turns out, Above All Fabric is actually supposed to make money. It’s not just a hobby.

So where do we go from here? Well to start with – get rid of stuff! The remainder of this month, I’ll be clearing things out.

Amy Butler fabrics and patterns are marked way way down. And after May, only a select few will remain in the shop.

Same goes for much of the sale section. After May, much of this won’t be here anymore. If there is something you’ve been thinking about, now is the time to snatch it up.

There are other sales. Lots of sales. In fact – all Bag patterns are at least 30% off. (sorry, due to contracts, the downloadable patterns are not included.) And there are new awesome prices for much of what isn’t officially on sale.

I have other great new fabrics too – like more solid colors of corduroy! The Flamingo is a perfect pink for Sandi Henderson’s corduroy prints! And the graphite is to die for! (By the way, denim is back in stock!)

So from now on, you should notice a much more intentional shop. If that makes any sense. You may have notice subtle changes already…but more (and bigger) changes are coming. And I hope that it works out cuz I LOVE fabric, I love sewing and I love working for all of you!

And I’d like to give a couple of you subscriptions to Stitch magazine, which only comes out twice a year. The Spring issue is one of my favorites so far, so I decided to get it for the shop. And the Fall issue will be awesome too. Just leave a comment here and you’ll be entered to win both this magazine and the fall one (when it comes out!) International peeps are always welcomed to join in the fun! And if you already have one, leave a comment anyway just because you might win…and I’ll figure something out for you in the meantime!

I appreciate your feedback on the knits dilemma. As it turns out, I was lucky to not pre-sell. They have been pushed back a couple weeks. In stead of this month, we’re now looking at sometime in June. Still not to far away! SO anyway, I’ve created this sign up from. If you want to know as soon as they are transit to me, sign up. Pink Hair

Remember last year when I told you about my friend Jess selling hair bows to raise money for her 3 day breast cancer walk? She and Linsay are doing it again this year! It’s a 3 day 60 mile walk in October. You can find out more info here.

Each lady has to raise $2300 to participate in the walk! And they’re going a little crazy. They’ve set a goal of $1500 in the next 4 weeks….and if they reach that goal, they’ll die their hair pink! (which involves bleaching it blond first!)

I wanted to get involved with their efforts – so this is what I’ve come up with…super easy and painless!

Did you sew?

Did you sew for an hour yesterday? I must admit that I did not. Tuesdays are super hectic and by the time I could sew, I really needed to work on business things. I promise I will do better today! I have a huge stack of towels and fabric ready for hooded towels. I was supposed to have them ready by April…not that anyone paid me to have them by April…or paid me at all for that matter. April was just my own goal. Who knows why. But, hey, May is the new April.

(Ack! I get so distracted. This is really what a conversation with me is like. Ask my husband. He has to reign me in all the time.)

Anyway I’ve also be contemplating an outfit for my niece. I’m so excited that I have another little girl to sew for! And my cousin is having a baby girl too!!! YAY! (There I go, down the rabbit hole.) Which one should I do first?

Kids Week Challenge

First….Did you see the Made by Rae final round? My shirt did not make the final cut…but it was in the top 60. Pretty fun! And the shirts that are in the final are awesome! The flickr group is serious inspiration! I was so happy to see Adrianna won. Her shirt is totally awesome! She is an awesome sewist. Visit her blog, you won’t be disappointed!

(Do you feel like I need an “awesome” intervention? Yep, that would be awesome. I almost went back and added more “awesome” just to drive the point home….but I refrained….cuz I’m awesome.)

Second….. Meg over at Elsie Marley is having a Kids Week Challenge. It’s too late to officially get on the list….but it’s not to late to participate! Read more here and see pictures here. Great way to bust that stash…and your kids will get clothes. Win, win!

Third…. I’ve made this skirt available as a kit. Haley loves it! And bonus – most of the work is done for you since the squares are already cut! There are 3 color options from the super super cute Summer Song fabric collection. I love it. I think it’s awesome.

Patty’s New Patterns

Just popping in to let you know that Patty Young‘s newest patterns are in the store. As usual, they do not disappoint. If you haven’t sewn with Patty’s patterns yet, you’re missing out! Beautiful full color booklets, lots of instruction and tips! (And for new knit sewists, she doesn’t leave you guessing! They are great!) You can find all of her patterns here. I simply cannot wait for the knits to arrive!

I’ve gone back and forth, back and forth regarding if I should pre-sell the new knits that Michael Miller is releasing. I have them all in the shop, ready to go….but they’re not visible yet. Some of you might remember that I got burned big time with Mezzanine, then again, I didn’t blog about it or publicize it, so you may not remember. Long story short, I pre-sold and then did not get my order. You know the saying “Once bitten, twice shy.” That is how I’m feeling about pre-selling Michael Miller fabrics now! Just thinking about the possibility of a repeat makes my stomach hurt. What do you think? Am I being overly paranoid?
