Spooky

My week has been….blah.  And I don’t want to complain and whine – so instead, I’ve been silent.  Anyway, now I’m happy it’s Friday!  Since tomorrow is Halloween (also Reformation Day, as a friend pointed out) I thought the kids needed something a little special to wear to school today.

The idea for the shirt is from Regina of Creative Kismet

My children painted the eyes.  In my house, this is really really huge.  In fact, when my oldest son was in preschool and it was time to do an art project with paint – he refused.  His reason: “My mom doesn’t let me paint.”  And he is right.  I can barely handle crayons – so paint is something my children don’t see – like ever.  And yes, I have a huge amount of guilt over it because I feel I need to foster their creative sides.  So -anyway, I got out my paint and let them do the work.   And paint is not covering our entire house – only our downstairs bathroom sink and toilet.  *sigh*

You have to take note of the sword Taylor has down the back of his shirt.  And the juice box.  He’s such a funny boy.

We tried to make Haley’s hair black this morning – it didn’t work so well.  But I still think she looks darn cute in her spooky spider dress.

Momo + Kyoko = Love

Haley has been asking me to make her the Kyoko shirt for a long time now.  Like maybe a year.  So sometime last week I finally got around to making it for her!

Let me tell you – these ModKid patterns are amazing! They are full color books with great instructions and pictures to illustrate the steps. I really really enjoyed sewing it. (So much so that the next night I made the Isabel dress. Pictures coming on that one too.)  Some of Patty’s newest patterns have already sold out! Yay! More are coming – I promise!

The fabric I used is from Moda’s designer, Momo. She is Japanese and the fabric, if you ask me, couldn’t be more perfect. It’s the Odyssea line – the main print is Calypso (in Kelp) with the accent of Nautica. I made the obi using Art Gallery’s Nature Elements. These blenders are wonderful! I find myself using them over and over!  Binding is Luxe from Charisma (which is on sale!)

Anyway – we love it.  I love it.  Haley loves it too.  (And yes, she is wearing jeans – by her own choice! )  A mom at Haley’s school ask where she could buy one.  That always makes me smile.

Where the Wild….

Girls Live?

Yeah, I don’t know.  I have the book, Where the Wild Things Are (and the movie) on my brain.  I haven’t actually seen the movie.  And based on one of my friend’s review – I won’t see it until it comes out on DVD.   But the fabric I used is from a collection called Wildwood, so it seems fitting.

Maybe.

And I am actually a little dizzy in the head.  I fear I might be catching something.

Okay forget my craziness….back to the cute little outfit Haley is wearing!  

It’s from the new Pink Fig pattern Scrapbook Jeans & a Sweatshirt.  I still need to add a big button to the front – or a fabric flower like my friend Anna.  But it wasn’t done – and the temperature was below 70 degrees (I am raising an Arizona girl!) so Haley wanted to wear it today.      

 

I used fabric from Erin McMorris’ Wildwood collection (oh I already told you that, didn’t I?) and instead of a sweatshirt (we are in AZ afterall) I used a raglan shirt I had on hand.  (Pssst – they are also listed in my store in the new Notions section at a great price!) 

And the hood!  The hood is lined with minky fabric.  

The minky will be available in my store  soon- in smaller cuts (in other words, more afforable!)  I’ll be sure to let you know when it’s up.

As usual – I opted to size up when making this for Haley.  That way, I figure it’ll last her longer.  I realize, however, that I need to stop doing that because I make her so many things – she needs to outgrow them!  If that makes any sense.       

Oh – I almost forgot to share – I got many of the prints from Erin’s Park Slope collection in the shop now!  They are no longer being printed so I got a great deal on them!  And I’m passing it on to you guys.  Plus this week if you use the code ERIN when you check out, you’ll get an additional 20% off (good on both her Park Slope and her Wildwood collections!)

Quilt Market – The Giveaway (Part 5)

Fall Break

I am taking a tiny little break from the Quilt Market blog series to post a couple pictures from Fall Break.  It was so relaxing and enjoyable. The scenery is magnificent and the weather was perfect for our trip. We drove up to the mountains one day and even found it snowing. Just for us.

Quilt Market – Patterns (Part 4)

I’m very close to wrapping up the Quilt Market recap. (Until next year!) I wanted to show you some wonderful new patterns that will be in the shop. And the last quilt market post, but certainly not least, will be What’s Coming AND  super fab giveaways. You’ll want to check back for that. I promise!

First up – Pink Fig! We’re a fan of Pink Fig patterns. Chelsea’s patterns are designed to make you fall in love with sewing!

And how can you not fall in love with the Julie Top. Or the Nie Nie skirt?

And of course, there are the ever so fabulous ModKid patterns. Patty has a sense of not only what looks fashionable (does saying that make me sound old?) but also what kids will actually wear!

And I’m happy to have added patterns from Sweetwater to my site.   (Just tonight!)

I currently only have one of each….but I’ve ordered more. I’m not sure exactly when they’ll arrive – it might not be until the fabric is released. *sigh* I’m loving them all.  And I’m loving the prices too!!!!

There is another new pattern company that I fell in love with. Izzy & Ivy Designs. This was their first time at market – and let me tell you, these ladies have been busy!

When their patterns arrive, I’ll be sure to let you know!!!

This weekend I’ll be sewing some patterns for my boys from Hot Scott. Another new company – but all BOY patterns! I should have them in store before too long.

Whew – I think that is all I’ll go over for now. There are other patterns on the way (from the likes of Sandi Henderson, Paula Prass, Art Gallery, etc.) – but I feel like I’ve taken too much time as it is.       

 

Most of the patterns are available right now.  So run (I mean click) over to the shop and check them all out….and buy a few.           

Quilt Market – Moda (Part 3)

Moda makes it so easy to spend money.

Sadly I don’t have a lot of pictures from the Moda complex. I just ran out of time, but it’s grand and lovely…..and I think I could have spent an entire weekend just browsing all their items.

I messed up last market by not ordering Sweetwater’s Authentic line. I’m not missing out on their next line. It is called ‘Make Life….’ and is beautifully simplistic. The patterns that go with it are great too. I’m very excited to get them all!

I’m also excited about other lines coming from Moda…including more Momo! Her next line is called Freebird.

I plan to do a whole post on what is coming and when – so you’ll see more Moda collections included in that blog!

Quilt Market – Free Spirit (Part 2)

The Free Spirit area was one I found myself in over and over. I just couldn’t get enough of the booths. Heather Bailey won the award for Best Double booth. It was totally totally awesome.

Her new line (I believe due out around January) is called Nicey Jane. She explained that when she was creating it she imagined a sweet girl going on a date to a dance. The story reminded me slightly of her own romantic story with her husband. She also has a number of new patterns coming out as well. Of course, the turtle she had revieled on her blog before quilt market. The other patterns are fantastic too!

Another Free Spirit desinger that had her own booth was Anna Maria Horner. I don’t know if I’ll ever want to sew with anything else ever again after fondling the voile. Little Folks is the name of the collection and there is also a Folksy Flannel collection being released as well. I have not carried flannel in my store – but after seeing her flannel paired with voile baby blankets, I’m considering it! (Let me know if you’re looking for and buying cool flannel often!!!)

Anna had samples of projects from her book that is yet to be released. After seeing some of the projects know that it is going to be exceptional.

I also ordered Tanya Whelan‘s newest line Dolce. It really is very sweet and I’m excited to add Tanya as a designer I carry!

Jenean Morrison was there with her line California Dreamin’. She was so sweet. It was fun to see her excitement about a dress she had made for herself. And she clearly loves medallions because the new line has several variations of them!

Quilt Market – Michael Miller (Part 1)

I don’t know how I should organize the posts.  So it might be mishmash craziness that will span over a couple days.

Here we go!

First – the Michael Miller booths!

Camp Michael Miller pretty much sets the tone.  The prints I love are fun and playful, just like their booth.

The Michael Miller girls – Patty Young, Sandi Henderson, Paula Prass and Pillow & Maxfield.  It’s hard for me to point out every little detail.  These women have made sure every little detail is perfect.  It is amazing!  Hopefully you’ll be able to see a little bit of that in the pictures. (Check out my quilt market flickr album to see even more pictures!)  

In addition to new fabric lines, they all have new patterns too!  I have Patty’s newest patterns in the store now.  Sandi is expecting hers to be ready in November and Paula says around the new year. Also Valerie Pillow and Anne Maxfield said their website, blog and such should be up before too long!

I have some goodies for you guys… you’ll definately want to check back. But right now I am falling alseep on my computer desk – so it’s time for me to get some much needed sleep!
