A little tale for you today. Let me set the scene.
Brother-in-law moves out. Hubby transports items over – kids and I go later to see the new place. Everyone has eaten, but me. I’m starving. (Okay – let’s admit it, there is no way I have ever come close to anything resembling ‘starving’ but that is a story for another day.) I don’t want to buy the kids something to eat when they have already had lunch.
Hubby: “Take my truck and I’ll meet you back at the house.”
Me: “Good idea.” Engine starts and music is turned on! Complete freedom – even if just for a few minutes – feels so nice!
“What should I eat?!?!?” Driving around – nothing looks good. It has to be fast….choices are limited.
“Oh there is a sonic…that will work.” Drive into Sonic drive-through. Enjoying music. Getting close to the ordering box.
“What the heck?!?!?” The driver side window does not work. {PANIC} There are already cars behind me. I’m boxed in. It’s my turn now.
Open driver’s side door and order. Sonic man says “I can’t hear you.” Louder. “I still can’t hear you. Are you ordering from the drivers side?” SCREAM my order (but this time I left out the fried ice cream sonic blast. I didn’t want everyone to hear me order that….I mean a grilled chicken sandwich is perfectly acceptable, but ice cream – that is indulgent
LOL!)
Okay – food ordered. I still have to pay and get the food. {More panic} The line is moving quickly. My turn. Pulling as far right as is possible in a drive through, I open the driver’s side door and squeeze out. Sonic man is not at the window. Everyone is staring at me.
Should I get back in? Should I stand out there and wait? Try to act cool and kinda lean against the truck.
Sonic man finally comes and takes my money. Hands me the food. I squeeze back in the truck and drive off. {Relief}
Maybe complete freedom, even for a minute, isn’t as nice as I had imagined!
