THEY’RE HERE!

YEAH! My shirts are here! Okay, actually they are shirts for little girls :-) I have been so excited to get my hands on them. I have some plans for these beauties…and you’ll see them in my Etsy shop before long. (probably on eBay too!) What can I say? I like to play with new things. I must, however, be responsible and finish orders that I have right now. (Plus I have to clean, again!)

Our Bugs are Big but….

Okay, I will agree that Arizona has some pretty big and nasty bugs (unless you like that kind of thing!) BUT let me say that I have never be bitten by a tarantula. They stay hidden! In fact, I have never seen one in the 7 years that we have lived in Tucson. (My husband has…and so did my brother-in-law last night…which is what made me think about this.) I have seen scorpion, but once again, they have not bothered me. Only one has been in one of the houses we have lived in and it was tiny. (I smashed it with a shoe!)

During our recent trip back to the Midwest (I will post more on this later!) I was, however, visited by a nice little bug called a chigger. (Please be sure to add lots of sarcasm while you read that last part!) I had bites ALL over me….and man alive….it was horrible. Here is some info I discovered regarding this little insect. (All parts in green were taken from ohioline.osu.edu, the red type contains my thoughts!)

Probably no creature on earth can cause as much torment for its size than the tiny chigger. (yep, that’s true!) Chiggers do not burrow into the skin, but insert their mouth parts in a skin pore or hair follicle. (GROSS!) Their bites produce small, reddish welts on the skin accompanied by intense itching (um…for sure!) Chigger mites are about 1/20 inch long, usually bright red, have hairy bodies, and travel rapidly. (so tiny…yet so irritating!) The preferred feeding locations on people are parts of the body where clothing fits tightly over the skin such as around the belt line, waistline, under girdles and under socks, or where the flesh is thin, tender or wrinkled such as the ankles, in the armpits, back of the knees, in front of the elbow, or in the groin. (I’m pretty sure I had multiple bites in ALL locations!)

Here is a picture of my new best friend!

It has lots of info on there if you want to know more. It kinda grossed me out because it was talking about how the fluid they inject liquefies the skin cells so they can suck them up. GAG…so anyway, I stopped there!

Kindergarden and Kyle’s blanket

Today is Kyle’s first day of kindergarden. Yesterday we went a bought a back pack for him. He picked out Spiderman! SUPER COOL :-) He’s hardly any bigger than it! He also got a Spiderman lunchpack. Haley is also starting preschool today. Her friend Sara is in her class and she’s very excited about that! She got a little backpack…I think a regular sized one would have swallowed her! Enjoy the pics.

I also am putting a up pictures of Kyle’s new blanket. I made this special for him since he is starting school 5 days/week. (I make Haley clothes, but Kyle just seems to get left out! ) Anyway he got to pick out the fabric himself…I just put it together. Pretty good, huh? The only thing I thought was funny was that he picked out fleece for the back. Doesn’t the kid know we live in Arizona?!?!?! Anyway now I have to decide if I want to get a few good pictures and try to sell a custom slot on Etsy. By the way…I’ve listed a couple things. It’s such a cool site…check it out!

Sleepless in Seattle (actually Tucson)

I just got off the phone with my sister. Her little boy was sick all night. I feel badly for her. I know how horrible those sleepless nights are when little ones are sick. Not fun at all!

I had my own interesting night last night. Haley woke up at about 2 a.m. and brought her Dora magnetic drawing board into our room. She wanted me to turn on the lights so she could draw. I explained to her that since it was dark, it was time to sleep and we could draw in the morning. She responded with a cute little “But my eyes are pretty good.” I told her no anyway and this sent her into a full blown crying fit….which of course woke up my husband. (and it takes a lot to wake him up…so you know it was loud!) He told her that she could draw in the morning and to climb into bed, we needed to sleep. Well, my darling daughter would not leave behind her magnetic drawing board, so Dora had to come into the bed as well. Now we have a queen sized bed, but there just isn’t room for 2 adults, one little girl who wriggles a lot AND a magnetic drawing board! So at about 2:30 I thought, “This is crazy, I need to get back to sleep.” I get up out of bed and decide, “Haley’s in our bed, so I’ll go sleep in Haley’s bed.”

Well, here’s the kicker! Haley doesn’t have a twin bed…..she has a toddler bed. It is a crib mattress on a little bed only a few inches off of the floor. We have multiple couches that I could have slept on, all which would have been up off the floor and I could have stretch my legs out…but no! I go for the toddler bed. I curled up on there and fell asleep right away. I woke up at about 5 a.m. and as you can imagine my legs were quite cramped. It is at this point I realize how dumb I was being and I go back into our room. My husband is getting up for work, so he scoots Haley and her Dora magnetic board over, I fall back into bed and back to sleep.

Only to be woken up less than an hour later by our oldest. I tell him it is WAY too early to get up and he needs to go lay back down. He asks if there are any shows on T.V. that he can watch! WHAT!!!! No sweetie, there is nothing on T.V right now. Go back to bed for a while.” I did get to sleep in until about 6:30 at which point I gave up, got up and poured some glasses of juice. Needless to say…I think today we’ll all be taking naps!

The photographer

Kyle has been really into taking pictures lately. I’m thankful for digital cameras so he can take as many pictures as his heart desires! I don’t have to pay to develop all of them and we can download and erase the memory card for the next round. This last time when I downloaded his picture excursion there were 87 pictures! Here are a few that made me smile.

Now I’ve caught it!

I distinctly remember numerous times as a child hearing my Mom say “We could make that.” It was quite bothersome at the time because I didn’t want to make anything. If I wanted that skirt, I wanted it then…not after finding the pattern, the fabric, cutting it out and sewing it together. So you can imagine the turmoil inside when I figured out I now have that same illness that ailed my mother all those years ago. I’m not really sure what this is, but I know that I must work hard to overcome the sickness! And I may need some serious help. This help must come from the outside world, because I know I am not going to get it here at home.

The other night my dear husband arranged for a babysitter (very sweet, I know) so that we could go to dinner and a movie. While we were waiting for the movie to start we walked around the mall. We ended up in the Levi store (my hubby has this thing for their pants!) That’s when it happened. I found a cute little purse made of corduroy and I said to myself…. “I could make that.” What is even more troubling is that when my husband found me looking at it he said “but you could make that.” So apparently the illness is quite contagious. Stay away…stay far far away!

PS As therapy I have gone to buy the purse! I’ll post a picture soon.
